Random Thoughts
Today’s blog is going to be a potpourri of topics. I have some many thoughts running through my head that I just have to get it all out on paper (just pretend you are reading this in a non-digital format….humor me).
First random thought, my top 5 overrated foods:
Five - Chicken breast. No matter how you cook it or how much you pound it out, it basically becomes a hockey puck. I’ll give you it may be good in a nice salad but that is about it. And if you bread it, it’s even worse.
Four - Dunkin Donuts drip coffee. I’d rather snort coffee grains through a straw than drink that coffee.
Three - Kale. Kale is for decorating the salad bar at Wendy’s. If you know, you know.
Two - Oysters. I love seafood. I love sushi. Oysters, I just can’t do it. I wanted to love it but it’s not for me.
One - Caviar. Enough with caviar already. It’s a new food fad to put caviar on everything. Just stop for the love of everything holy, stop!
Second random thought, Knicks are toast. Once upon a time in a recent blog, I predicted that the New York Knicks would go to the NBA finals to face the OKC Thunder. Yea…..ain’t happening. The Knicks can’t beat the Cavs and sure as hell can’t beat the Celtics. That prediction is cooked.
Third random thought, enough with the lake effect snow. For the first time in six years, yes SIX years, Syracuse saw a snow fall of over 100 inches. On average, Syracuse gets about 128 inches of a snow a year, but for the last six, we have been far less than 100, much to my delight. I shouldn’t feel too bad though, there are places in the northern parts of the state that received 100 inches in a day.
My final random thought isn’t so random. In times where things in the world seem difficult to deal with, sports can give you a little bit of a reprieve from reality. As many of you know, I’m a huge Liverpool supporter. The Mighty Reds currently have an 11 point gap between them and second place Arsenal (you know, the team that won the title in January like they do every season) with Liverpool having 11 matches left. Of the 11 matches left, Liverpool have seven of them at Anfield. 26 points is all that is needed for the Reds to clinch their 20th domestic championship. The next match for Liverpool is at home versus Joe Yerdon’s favorite club, Newcastle United. In the first match at St. James’ Park, Liverpool trailed 2-1 going into the 68th minute when Mo Salah (who else) equalized and then put the Reds ahead in the 83rd minute. The lead lasted until the 90th minute when Fabian Schar equalized for Newcastle. This fixture always produces drama and I wouldn’t expect anything different Wednesday night at Anfield. The famous old song that you will be hearing until the end of the season from Liverpool supporters, “A Liverbird upon my chest. We are the men of Shankly’s best. A team that plays the Liverpool way, and wins the championship in May.”
I’d be remiss not to mention an amazing achievement by Oswego men’s basketball head coach Jason Leone - he just picked up his 350th career victory over the weekend in a win over Morrisville. The win also earned the Lakers the 2nd seed in the SUNYAC playoffs! Congrats to Coach Leone and let’s go Lakers!!
