Happy New Year!

On behalf of the Throwing Bagels Podcast family, I’d like to wish you all a wonderful and safe new year. I hope 2024 is filled with joy and with love for you all and let’s all pray for peace for our brothers and sisters around the world.

2023 seemed like a blur, didn’t it? Who would have thought that three college friends would launch a podcast on a whim? Kevin, Jason and myself were just texting each other about our favorite sports teams, among other things and I suggested we do a podcast to chat about the things we were texting about. 31 episodes later, I’d say we are doing not terrible (a la Blaine Gabbert)! I’m sure that 2024 will bring even more content you will all enjoy. I know I’m not just speaking for myself when I say that I’ve had a blast doing this podcast. The highlight for me is meeting the people we have interviewed, especially Oswego State alumni that I’ve never met. We will definitely continue with highlighting our fellow alumni, among others in 2024.

The year in sports in 2023 was pretty fun. Here are my top 10 sports moments of 2023:

10 - (This one was requested by my son) - Max Verstappen dominating Formula One by winning 19 of 22 races. This dude just dominated his sport! His race team, Red Bull, won 21 of the 22 races in F1 in 2023.

9 - Manchester City wins the treble. I can honestly say I can’t stand this club, but you can’t deny their dominance in 2023. They won the Champions League for the first time along with the Premier League and FA Cup. Too bad no one shows up to their matches.

8 - LeBron becomes the NBA’s all-time scorer. Not sure if this should be higher on my list or not? Compiler? Nah, I don’t think so. Love or hate LeBron, he’s still balling!

7 - The Denver Nuggets win their 1st NBA title. Nikola Jokic is the best player in the world that no one cares about. It’s a shame really. It was the quietest championship win in history.

6 - Patrick Mahomes leads the Chiefs to a Super Bowl over the Eagles. Mahomes was the MVP in what was one of the best Super Bowl in modern times.

5 - The PGA and LIV merger. I don’t watch a whole lot of golf post Tiger. Let’s be honest, it’s just not as entertaining. This merger made headlines for a whole lot of reasons!

4 - Taylor Swift takes over the NFL. Do you think that Travis takes her last name if they get married?

3 - Aaron Rodgers blows his achilles tendon 4 plays into his Jets debut. I don’t think it will be his last stand…..

2 - Caitlin Clark vs Angel Reese. Woman’s college basketball has never been more popular and it was amazing drama!

1 - Leo Messi. Came off leading Argentina to the 2022 World Cup. The GOAT came to MLS and brought his buddies from Barcelona. Inter Miami will be a force in 2024.

Here’s to making 2024 an even better year in sports and in all walks of life. Happy New Year everyone!
